I'm very proud to have been a part of a cross-functional team that pushed for, and contributed to this simple, but meaningful disclosure of workforce demographics at Starbucks.
My primary contribution was an interactive dashboard that explores the diversity of Starbucks borken down by business segment, job level, and gender, race, ethnicity identifications. That interactive can be found at the bottom of the Starbucks press release as well as embedded here below.
By being transparent about the gender/racial makeup of its U.S. workforce, Starbucks can work from a common set of facts that ground conversations for how to create and influence a more equitable and inclusive culture. Doing so publically both holds the company accountable and will also hopefully serve as an example to other orginizations on how navigate and make progress in the complex field of Inclusion & Diversity.
